Erica Piccotti, an already well known young cellist, is one of the most acclaimed emerging talents today. She is a student of the Accademia Chigiana, and has already recorded for the Decca label. In this concert, accompanied on the piano by Monica Cattarossi, she approaches the complete cycle of Beethoven’s Sonatas for cello and piano in addition to a contemporary composition: Melencolia I by Salvatore Sciarrino.
Erica Piccotti was born in Rome in 1999. Nominated “Young Artist of The Year” by the jury of the International Classical Music Award 2020, she already received her diploma in cello at the age of 14. She made her recording debut for the Warner Classics record company, and live concert debut at the Rai da Montecitorio alongside the cellist M. Brunello for the National Academy of Santa Cecilia. She was also awarded the title of Alfiere della Repubblica.
She has been a student of Antonio Meneses at the Accademia Chigiana since 2015. She obtained the Diploma of Honor in her last year of attendance (2019). Established in numerous national and international competitions, she carries out an intense concert activity both as a soloist and in chamber ensembles in prestigious festivals, among others “Verbier Festival Academy” (CH), “Chamber Music Connects the World” of Kronberg (DE), “La Musica Festival” in Sarasota (USA), “Chigiana International Festival” in Siena, and “Festival dei Due Mondi” in Spoleto. She has performed with artists such as S. Accardo, M. Brunello, A. Dumay, G. Kremer, B. Giuranna, I. Golan, L. Lortie, A. Meneses, D. Rossi, M. da Silva, M. Fourth, Sir A. Schiff and C. Tetzlaff. She also performed in Beijing and New York thanks to the “Young Italian Musical Talents in the World” project promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in collaboration with the Accademia Chigiana.
She is currently studying in Germany with F. Helmerson at the Kronberg Academy.
Monica Cattarossi works in the field of chamber music and accompaniment, as an interpreter, chamber musician and teacher. She has been invited to play in many of today’s most important festivals, collaborating with artists such as Salvatore Accardo, Enrico Dindo, Julius Berger, Rocco Filippini, Antonio Meneses, Danilo Rossi, Dora Schwarzberg.
Together with Antonio Meneses she collaborates as an accompanist within the courses of the Chigiana Academy in Siena and the Walter Stauffer Academy in Cremona.
She holds the chair of piano accompaniment at the University of Italian Switzerland in Lugano, and the chair of chamber music at the G. Cantelli Conservatory in Novara, she has held masterclasses across Europe and Asia.
The project “Roll Over Beethoven” is supported by the MiC and SIAE, within the program “Per Chi Crea”
